For the S550’s first update for the 2018 model year,
the Ford Mustang’s base V6 engine was finally dropped, the V8
was uprated to 460 hp, and the old six-speed automatic made way for
a new 10-speed auto co-developed with GM. Continual adjustments
over the years saw the arrival of a High Performance 2.3L turbo-four with 332 hp,
a 5.0L V8 rerated to 450 hp for the GT, and a 470-hp 5.0L Mach 1.
